Why I joined "Book of the Month"

Why did I join, and why do I think you should join too?

Book of the month (botm) has gained immense popularity among book lovers in the past few years. This popularity is in large part due to the club's accessibility to new and wildly popular reads and the ability to read alongside others throughout the country.

Well, after years of putting off becoming a member, I finally decided to join. And I'm so glad that I did!

Why I joined (updated)

For years I have made the argument (to myself) that a subscription service was both unnecessary and too expensive. But boy, was I wrong! I love being able to read brand new stories immediately, as most of my other reads (I read anywhere between 3-30 books a month) are older and have been on my tbr list for ages. I've also started making connections online with other book nerds like myself, and it has been an absolute blast.

Update: My first book was only $5. Going forward, they've ranged from $10-16 based on my monthly choice and add-ons. I've already gotten free books from referrals, and I'm more and more excited each month. In all honesty, using this service has kept me from spending TOO much money on new books because I focus solely on the ones I am waiting on! I've also found that you can swap your choices with others by just paying to ship through online groups. Doing so SUCH a convenient way of trading the books I enjoyed -but not enough to keep- for ones I haven't read yet, and only paying media shipping for them (around $3).

Why I recommend that you give it a try

• Botm has an extremely wide range of choices for your first pick. If you don't like the books that are chosen from the month, you can choose from hundreds of other options!

• UPDATE: A lot of the books are EARLY RELEASE copies of popular, upcoming books. An example of this is Black Cake (see my review of this book here). I received this as an arc copy from NetGalley, but it was also a January option for botm despite not being released until February 1st.

• The quality of the books is fantastic! They are taller and sturdier than most hardbacks I receive from big-name stores.

• It fuels an individual's need to read and keeps people excited about new stories and authors.

• There are TONS of online groups that anyone can join on Facebook, Goodreads, Discord, and other social media platforms. I am a part of 5+ clubs that discuss and trade books.
